DAY 15 - Facing Fear

‘Fear, when our personality is broken down into its raw ingredients, is one of the most common constituent parts to be revealed.’

- Colm Holland - The Secret of The Alchemist.

We all have fears and there’s an infinite number of books, blogs, videos and talks encouraging you to face your fears - if you want to move forward in your life! I want to break down what I mean by fear, to help you think clearly on this very important topic.

There is rational fear built into all human nature, which should really be described as caution, and is there for our protection—for example, not putting your hand into fire or keeping your head under water for too long. The fear of heights may put a stop to your desire to go sky diving and this is a natural and normal reaction to that particularly hazardous activity. You should be concerned if you don’t experience some fear when you leap from the aircraft.

Then there’s irrational fear that lives in the realm of our emotions and triggers certain uncontrollable responses to a variety of life’s circumstances and in particular our relationships or fulfilling our ambitions. This fear can be crippling and at times totally disabling. This is the fear I want to address today.

The ancient alchemists knew all about fear and this is what they had to say on the subject:

Getting to the root of our fears is the unavoidable first step of the process of transformation.

If you have committed to Transformation towards True Empowerment - then facing your fears is unavoidable. This is what the alchemical process teaches. In fact, I would go so far as to say that unless you face your deepest fears, the fears that hold you back from living a fulfilled life of joy, then it will be impossible to move forward.

Unless you can identify the roots of your fears, you will never have them healed and, most importantly, ever be able to see them turned into your greatest assets.

I say healed because behind every fear is an open wound and pain.

Whenever you have been wounded by life’s injustices, from your conception to now, it has caused you pain and it’s only natural to develop a fear of that wound being repeated or re-opened. This is normal but not necessarily helpful. Those fears are the reason you have stopped making progress in your desire to find True Empowerment.

I will talk more tomorrow about how you can find ways to allow Love to heal those wounds and free you from fear’s iron grip over your future. But first I want you to be gentle with yourself and take some time today to compassionately look within and identify some of the fears that you are experiencing.

Here’s today’s mantra:

I call on Love today to help me face my fears without judgement.

And remember, to encourage you throughout these exercises I have asked Love to give you everything you need to be the Alchemist in your world.
