DAY 36 - Silence

‘To complete the miracle we seek to perform, we must divest ourselves of all investment in the outcome.’ Colm Holland - The Secret of The Alchemist.

Silence is not so much the absence of sound, it is the withdrawal of activity.

I had the best drama teacher at high school who taught us the three S’s of public speaking and I still use them to this day:

Stand Up! Speak Up! Shut Up!

I have seen a lot of public speakers in my life and most of them are good at the first two S’s - Stand up and Speak up. Then there are a handful who I remember most because they knew when to stop! They Shut Up at exactly the right moment because they had said what had needed to be said. Period!

This is a universal truth for all human activity - not least when we are engaged as alchemists in The Great Test, using The Secret Fire of our innermost passion.

We believe, erroneously, that we must keep going and going and going at what we want to happen; the desired result of our efforts, until we SEE the result taking place. ‘Seeing is believing’, we say.

Many public speakers assume that they must say the same thing over and over in many different ways to drive home their point when actually if they made the point ONCE and then let a silence do the the rest - the audience will process the thought rather than turn off their attention to the drone of the speaker’s voice.

The same is true when we apply our full will and intent - aligned with Love - to produce the miracle we desire with all our heart. There comes a time when, and you will know when it is, that we need to withdraw the fire and allow Love to work the magic.

In my book The Secret of The Alchemist I tell how the ancient alchemists would reach a point in their transformation process when they divested themselves of all investment in the desired outcome, while at the same time not losing the core intent.

During this period of silence the power of intent from the alchemist had been unleashed into the cosmos and was given time to work in harmony with the Love that unites all things to bring about the desired outcome.

‘Unless you divest yourself of the need for a miracle to look a certain way, you are likely to stand in the way of Love’s efforts to make it happen.’ Colm Holland

During The Great Test, the ancient alchemists were often tempted to feel that their work had failed if nothing materialised after time and yet they refused to let despair take over. The trick, it seemed, was mastering the art of letting go without giving up, which was a delicate balance essential for success.

‘This is the true nature of Silence: it is intent without investment and is the lost art we need to rediscover if we are to see the miracles we desire.’ Colm Holland

Our mantra for today:

I will learn to be silent and release all my investment in the outcome of what I truly want so that Love can make it happen.

Remember I have asked Love to give you everything you need to be the Alchemist in your world.
