DAY 27 - Personal Legend

Since its first publication in English 27 years ago, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho has sold over 85 million copies in more than 70 languages and remains a bestseller to this day. Because this is day 27 of our Alchemy Meditations I want to honor and celebrate it’s influence upon so many of our lives.

Follow your dreams to find your True Destiny - is the book’s key message.

As I have described previously, I was very fortunate to read The Alchemist in its first English manuscript form when I was responsible for its publication in Australia in 1993. Paulo was unknown around the world at this point and news of my enthusiasm for the book reached him and we wanted to meet and thank me personally.

The day I met Paulo was the day I decided I needed to continue on the path of my Personal Destiny - or as Paulo has coined the phrase: Personal Legend.

What is your Personal Legend or Destiny?

Melchizedek explains to Santiago::

‘’It’s what you have always wanted to accomplish.”

“Everyone when they are young, knows what their destiny is.”

“To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only real obligation”.

“It is the reason that you are here.”

“You are here to honor the miracle of life.”

“You know you are betraying your Personal Legend when you are doing something without enthusiasm.”

“Saying I am not ready is just an excuse.”

Then he says something critically important:

“I believe 100% that every person has a Personal Legend - which is different from believing that every person is going to fulfill their Personal Legend.”

The inference here is that you must choose to pursue our Personal Legend. It will not happen by accident.

The opposite of following your Personal Legend is to live a life of resignation and inaction. We can pass our life never reaching for our true destiny and we can find a million reasons why that’s OK - but it’s not OK - because as each year passes it will be harder to choose and could eventually be too late.

It's easy to make plenty of excuses to keep putting it off as if there is such a thing as ‘the right time’. The right time is to choose to follow your heart towards True Empowerment is NOW.

Today’s mantra:

My only real obligation is to follow my Personal Legend and to Love.
